The Enduring Architecture of the Mainframe: 120 years of Computer Architecture and Strategy

Eddy Ciliendo | Vice President of Strategy | 21CS
10:30 am PT | 12:30 pm CT | 1:30 pm ET
“On April 7th, 1964 the entire concept of computers changed” said an old IBM add. The success story of the mainframe started with a number of key architectural and strategic decisions that later came to be known as “IBM’s $5 billion gamble”. Eddy Ciliendo is the Vice President of Strategy at 21CS and he has personally witnessed half of the mainframe’s 60 year history. In this session Steven Dickens and Eddy Ciliendo will explore some of those strategic decisions and how they have shaped the mainframe but more importantly also how those decisions will shape the next 60 years of IBM Z.
